‘Internet Summit’ conference to focus on business opportunities, trends

More than 40 speakers and guest panelists will gather in the Triangle to discuss business opportunities and trends in the Internet industry for an “Internet Summit.”

The one-day conference is set for Nov. 19 at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill.

TechJournal South, a monthly newspaper and web site covering technology and life science across the southeast, and venture capital firm Southern Capitol Ventures are putting on the event.

“The Triangle market seemed as good as any tech market in the region for the first year especially since we’re located here,” said TechJournal South Publisher Eric Gregg. “We’ll look to potentially move this event series around as well to other markets.”

TechJournal South also puts on an annual venture capital conference. Its third event is set for next March in Atlanta.

Some of the best-known entrepreneurs in the Triangle are already committed to participate in the Internet event. Among them are Bob Young, co-founder of Red Hat who now owns and runs self-publishing firm Lulu.com, Jud Bowman, who recently left mobile information firm Motricity to launch PocketGear, and Scot Wingo, president and founder of e-commerce solutions firm ChannelAdvisor.

Also speaking will be Ryan Allis, CEO of e-mail marketing firm iContact, and Stephen Wiehe, CEO of e-fulfillment firm SciQuest. Wiehe is the incoming chairman of the Council for Entrepreneuriual Development.
