Ask the Meteorologists
Have a question for our meteorologists? Post it here and check back later for the answer.
Where do I find the monthly high and low average temperatures for the state as a whole. Not divided into cities or areas.
MIKE MOSS SAYS: Maredith, I can't think of a handy resource for statewide average temperatures broken into maxima and minima. There is, however, a site managed by the National Climatic Data Center where you can query monthly overall average temperatures for the state. To do so, try out the resources at

Also, the State Climate Office of North carolina has a nice overview page on our climate that includes links to contour maps showing monthy and yearly average highs and lows for the sate. You might be able to do a little "visual averaging" using the maps that may (or may not) suit your purpose. See

Hope that helps!
