You asked for it, and we've got it for you!
Our exclusive iControl Doppler puts you in control of the radar display. Zoom in and out, track storms, and look at satellite images.
Now, just in time for Fay's rains, we've got two new features for your storm-tracking pleasure: severe thunderstorm and tornado watches as well as lightning data.
The watchboxes will show you where there are tornado or severe thunderstorm watches in effect across the country, so you'll know where to expect the worst of the severe weather. (Naturally, if one is in effect for our area, you'll see an alert at the top of the weather page, as well!)
We're also very excited to include lightning data in iControl. It's designed to show you where thunderstorms with cloud-to-ground lightning strikes are, but unlike the lightning data we use on television, it is not live, strike-by-strike information. Plus, each lightning strike icon you see on the map may represent a single strike or hundreds, depending on how the lightning data are gridded.
So, use the lightning data as a guideline... and play it safe when making plans outdoors. If you see lightning or hear thunder, you should be inside!
Enjoy!
