After Sprinkles, Warm Start to Work Week on Tap

Raleigh, N.C. — Southerly winds will usher in a warmer start to the work week after a chance of sprinkles and showers late Sunday.

The weekend got off to a wet start as the remnants of a storm system lingered over North Carolina Saturday morning. A few hundredths of an inch of rain fell on Raleigh, while a band of showers and thunderstorms brought heavier rains north and east of the Triangle. Elizabeth City reported 0.18 inches of rain.

"It was a nice Saturday afternoon after a kind of a gray morning yesterday," WRAL Meteorologist Mike Moss said. "Yesterday afternoon, we had the sun break out ... and it really warmed us up quickly."

On Saturday, Raleigh saw a high of 62 degrees – six above normal – and a low of 42 degrees – 10 above normal.

Clouds from an upper-level disturbance will bring a chance of showers and sprinkles late Sunday.

"It doesn’t look like a lot of the active weather, in terms of precipitation, is going to hold together as it continues to move eastward," Moss said. "We still could see some sprinkles out of it, though, and late this afternoon and evening, maybe one or two stray showers."

With the upper-level disturbance out of the way Monday, warmer air will move in from Florida on Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will hit highs in the low 60s those days.

The brief warm-up will end when a cold front rushes in Tuesday afternoon – but that system brings with it, again, the possibility of rain.
