Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where can I find live streaming of your newscasts?
A. We have expanded our video offerings considerably. We now livestream ALL newscasts, and the latest newscast is always available on-demand until the next live newscast.

All video, whether livestreaming or on-demand clips, can be found inside the Video player. Simply click the MORE VIDEO link in the player on the homepage to bring up all of your video choices. You also can type the keyword "newscasts" into the search box to launch the player with the latest available newscast.

As we have in the past, we will highlight the live noon WRAL News in the player on the homepage to make it easy to find and access. Also, you can search for live and on-demand video using the search box in the video player.

Q. Why is the layout out of alignment on my browser (using Internet Explorer or Firefox)?
A. You may have changed the text size settings to make text easier to read.  We are working on a permanent solution to address the alignment issues, but you can also lower the text size using the instructions below:

Internet Explorer
On the menu bar at the top of your browser go to View, then Text Size, then select Medium.
Firefox
On the menu bar at the top of your browser go to goto View then Text Size, then select Normal.
(Note: You may need adjust the text size even smaller to see the proper alignment.)

Q. I use the Netscape browser, and the left part of your page is cut off.  What can I do?

A. The Netscape browser does not support some of the coding, known as Cascading Style Sheets or CSS, used to design our new site. We are investigating a fix. One solution is to switch browsers. We recommend the Firefox browser because of its robustness and small file size. It can be downloaded for free from the following Web site:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Q. Where can I find blogs?

A. There is a complete list of blogs within the News section. Blogs is one of the sub-navigation options below the main menu when you are in the News section. You also can type "blogs" into the Search box. We also now highlight the latest blog posts in the second column, and we post blog posts to appropriate sections of the site.

Q. Do you still have quizzes?

A. Yes. Quizzes can now be found on the Entertainment page, along with Horoscopes, Lottery, Events and the Community Calendar. You also can get to quizzes by typing "quiz" or "quizzes" into the site search box at the top of every page.

Q. How can I find tonight's low temperature?

A. The night's forecast low is back by popular demand. We are now including it on the 5-Day Forecast  image, and in the text forecast that is displayed on the page.

Q. What happened to Professor Wrestling?

A. Professor Wrestling was a column provided by the company that used to host and maintain the WRAL.com Web site. That column is no longer available to us.

Q: Will bookmarks that I made on the old site work on the new site?

A. It depends on the pages bookmarked. Most section fronts have the same Web addresses, such as Sports, Weather and Traffic. It is more likely that URLs have changed for pages found deeper inside sections.

For very popular pages, such as Doppler5000 radar, you will be automatically redirected from the bookmarked pages on the old site to the corresponding pages on the new site. Please update your bookmarks when you encounter these pages.

In some cases, you will be taken to a Page Not Found message. The best way to locate content you are seeking is to use the search engine.

Q. What software or plug-ins do I need to play video?

A. Our new video player uses two formats: Adobe Flash Player for on-demand clips and Windows Media Player for live video streams. Flash also is required to view animated or “looped” weather maps.

Chances are that you have both programs already installed on your computer. Both can be downloaded for free.

Download Adobe Flash Player

Download Windows Media Player

Q. Health used to be a main menu choice on the old site. I don’t see it on the new site. Where can I find Health Team stories?

A. To streamline our navigation, we had to move some section choices. To access Health, Family, Travel, Dating and House & Home stories, click on Lifestyles. You’ll notice that all section fronts now have a secondary navigation menu just under the main navigation bar.

Q. Do I need to register with WRAL.com to view the Web site?

A. Registration is optional. It is required to receive e-mail newsletters and breaking news alerts and to comment on stories or blog posts. It also will be required to enter contests.

We require minimal information on our registration form. The only required fields are: e-mail, ZIP code, gender and birth year.

Q. What happened to Weblinks?

A. The Weblinks page, which lists Web sites referenced in WRAL newscasts, still exists. It just no longer has a permanent spot on the main navigation. You can now find Weblinks by typing "weblinks" into the search engine.

Q. What did you do with Health news?

A. Health news is now in the new Lifestyles section. It also is available on the homepage. The latest Health stories are posted there, and you can click on the HEALTH heading to get to the Health section. We had to condense several sections under a single heading to help us streamline our navigation menu. You also can type HEALTH into the search box, and the first link will take you to that section.

Q. There is other content that I cannot find. What should I do?

A. The site search has been dramatically improved, so you can find just about any story, video clip, image or section using the site search, which is found on the right side of the main navigation menu at the top of each page.

Q. Where can I find lake levels?

A. The lake levels are on the recreational weather page, and the link to that page can be found on the Weather page under the Health/Environment heading.

Q. Will my old RSS feeds work?

A.  Unfortunately, no.  Our  site structure has changed, meaning that  many  URLs or  Web addresses for content have changed.  If you  set  up WRALcom RSS feeds on your  Yahoo homepage or other personal portal site, you will need to change the RSS feeds using the new list published on our Tools page.

Q. Where can I find your Webcams, including the Wake SPCA or "puppy" cam?
